A trip of a lifetime to Galapagos Islands yields out-of-this-world volcanic landscape images and captures photographs of some of the most unique animals on the planet.
One of the top places on my nature photography wish list was to visit the Galapagos Islands. With much anticipation and excitement, my visit to the Galapagos Islands was beyond my wildest expectations. I have always wanted to explore the rugged, pristine landscape and observe the animals that have thrived and evolved there. I was fortunate to have an extended visit that allowed me to tour many of the islands, including Santa Cruz, Floreana, Isabela, Fernandina, Santiago, Rabida, Seymour, Baltra, Bartolome, Espanola, and San Cristobal. A volcanic archipelago, each island has completely unique attributes – animal species, sand color and texture, shape of the landscape, trees, and plants.
The photographic opportunities were endless, and I found myself sorting through thousands of photos once I got home. Having the ability to capture images of giant tortoises, marine iguanas, blue footed boobies, frigatebirds, sea lions, and penguins, in their natural habitat, with the animals not stressed by humans in any way, was a magical experience. Stark lava and cactus framed the perfect beaches to make breathtaking views. The scenery was something I have never experienced, and knowing it is so greatly valued and protected as a national park by the Ecuadorian government is reassuring. The guides and people were warm, welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable. They acknowledge and appreciate how special this place is and enjoy sharing with visitors. It was this feeling of safety, serenity and peacefulness I strived to capture in my photographs.
